Riverside Retreat
In 1819, the Kersfield Estate and adjoining Snook lands on the River Tweed were sold for £35,000 to Admiral Sir David Milne. Using prize money from his naval career, Milne commissioned architect James Gillespie Graham to design Milne Graden House, completed in 1823.Though his first wife, Grace Home, died young, Milne’s ties to her family endured. His son later married into the neighbouring Paxton estate, uniting Milne Graden and Paxton for future generations. Today, almost two centuries later, Milne Graden remains a cherished home on the Tweed.
